"Three men who served in Congress were born within one mile radius of this point.  James B. Richmond (1842-1910) was a member of the House of Representatives from 1879 to 1881 as a Democrat.  Campbell Temp (1839-1907), a Republican was elected to the House of Representatives in 1902 and served until his death on 13 Oct. 1907.  His son, Campbell Bascom Slemp (1870-1943), replaced him in the House in 1907 and was reelected to seven consecutive terms until he retired in 1922.  The next year, he was appointed President Calvin Coolidge's secretary and served until 1925."
