Located at 1600 Winchester Avenue, Ashland, KY.
The present church was constructed in 1888 consisting of
asymmetrical massing of pairs of gable ends (each with a large
rose window) with a square pyramidial roofed tower at the
corner. Recent restoration changed the entrance from the front
to the side of the building. The building is listed on the
Natuonal Register of Historical Places.
The Presbyterian Church was organized in 1819 and was known
as the Bethesda Church. In 1856 the Bethesda Church became
know as the First Presbyterian Church. In 1857, the Kentucky
Iron, Coal and Manufacturing Company donated 2 lots at 1600
Winchester Avenue to the Church for a building. The present
building was built in 1888. There has been recent restoration
of the building.
This picture shows the original front entrance of the church.
After
restoration, the entrance was moved to the side of the building
and this
entrance was closed.
