An outgrowth of Lewis Craig's "Traveling Church," this is
oldest continuous congregation north of Ky. River. It arrived here from Gilbert's Creek in
1783. Originally Baptist, became Christian Church, ca. 1830, influenced by B. W. Stone and
Alex. Campbell. Prominent pastors include Jacob Creath, Sr., Jacob Creath, Jr., and Elder
John Smith. Present sanctuary rebuilt, 1870.
